    Brilliant! I have passed this information onward and I have a request. Could you please devote a post to explaining domains and domain mapping and the advantages of having your own domain?

    [Wolfie edit: I've removed a smiley from this comment, because for some reason they really screw up the way the comment is displayed]

      @timethief:
      This is something that I want to get to at some point; I just need to find a bit of time to sit down and get everything in order. Not sure about domain mapping though – never done that!

    Thanks Wolfie. Excellent guide.
    This will definitely help when I come to make the jump to self hosting my blog.
    Keep up the good work!

    Just now found your guide: just exactly the type of advice I’ve been seeking without much success, until now. Thanks!

    Hi Wolf,
    I was just stopping by to see if Mudge’s needs were met here and of course they are.
    Best regards, TT

    Hi Wolfie-
    First, thanks for the PDF file of tips–much appreciated by all of us out here.

    I’m scouring the internet for help.
    I’ve just started to go self-hosted–> from WP.com to self hosted using WP software on Blue Host. I’m trying to import my blog XML file, BUT it’s too large. It’s 3+ MB and the WP software says it can only import 2MB file or smaller. What can i do? I’ve seen some posts talking about ’splitting up’ the XML file into smaller files…but i don’t understand how to do this and need step by step instructions. Can you offer me some help, please??
    THanks!!
    Lisa

    Thank you so much for taking the time to create this document. I made the leap to self hosting this weekend. I’ve still got some kinks to work out, but I wouldn’t have gotten this far without your expertise! You ROCK! Thanks again and again!
