I agree with you on the new UI (although I must confess that while your dropdown menu does improve things, there's still something not 100% right about it) and I do think this is generally a style-over-substance release. I'm not a fan of the new UI at all, especially the menus (becomes decent with my Admin Drop Down Menu I think), but there are a few new features that are cool. The uploader is really faster, I think it's a reason in itself for upgrading.
