John Connor? Anyone seen John Connor?
Is it just me that’s worried about this story: satellite Skynet 5C has just been launched, completing the Skynet ‘installation’ and giving military computers the power to talk directly to each other, rather than the voice-only communication provided by the previous version of the system. It worries me when computers called Skynet can talk to each other.
What also worries me is that this is a system that is owned by a private company, not the Ministry of Defence. So, theoretically, they could take the system offline just when we need it the most. But at least the company that owns it isn’t called Cyberdyne Systems; no, their name is Paradigm Secure Communications. So they’ve got a couple of takeovers and mergers to go through before they become Cyberdyne.
What would really finish me off is if you told me that the whole system runs on Windows.
