Oh please don’t….
Just came across this depressing story on the BBC. Apparently ‘comedian’ Russell Brand, fresh from his success insulting an old man, is developing a re-make of Dudley Moore classic Arthur. Worse still, it seems that Brand himself will take the lead role.
I hate this culture of ‘let’s re-make it, ‘cos then we can cash in big time’ that seems to exist in film-making these days. Why can’t studios make some original films for a change? (According to William Goldman it’s all because of the ‘Green Light Guy’ who’s worried about his job). But if you are going to insist on re-making stuff, please don’t mess with a classic like Arthur.
And if you do, please don’t let Russell bloody Brand anywhere near it.
