ClickToday’s song is God Gave Me An Angel by Chris Rea

I was never born with the face of a movie star
I was never blessed with an easy load along the way
I have taken the wrong turning
So many times I can’t remember
But one thing I have for sure
I can always smile and say

God gave me an angel with a smiling face
God gave me an angel this I know
My churches are all empty and I’m guilty every day
But God gave me an angel anyway

Hadn’t heard this for quite a while when it popped up iTunes. I really listened to the words for the first time in I can’t remember how long, and realised that I, too, have been blessed with an angel.

ClickToday’s song is Heaven by Bryan Adams

Oh – thinking about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free

Now nothing can take you away from me
We’ve been down that road before
But that’s over now
You keep me coming back for more

Baby you’re all that I want
When you’re lying here in my arms
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven

And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven

Oh – once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you’re feeling down

Ya – nothing could change what you mean to me
Oh there’s lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way

Baby you’re all that I want
When you’re lying here in my arms
I’m finding it hard to believe
We’re in heaven

And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn’t too hard to see
We’re in heaven

I’ve been waiting for so long
For something to arrive
For love to come along

Now our dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad
Ya – I’ll be standing there by you

Anyone watching BBC TV last night would have seen John Barrowman turning this Bryan Adams classic into just another piece of elevator muzak; while the words were still as meaningful as ever, the vocal emotion and power had gone. So I thought I’d post the original so you can find out how it’s supposed to sound.

ClickToday’s song is My Old Man’s A Dustman by Lonnie Donegan

Now one day while in a hurry
He missed a lady’s bin
He hadn’t gone but a few yards
When she chased after him
“What game do you think you’re playing?”
She cried right from the heart
“You’ve missed me. Am I too late?”
“Nah, jump up on the cart!”

Oh, my old man’s a dustman
He wears a dustman’s hat
He wears cor blimey trousers
And he lives in a council flat

I say, I say, I say (Not you again!)
My dustbin’s absolutely full with toadstools
(How do you know it’s full?)
‘Cos there’s not mushroom inside!

This was always one of my favourite songs when I was growing up; it seems like it was on Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewarts Junior choice every week. And I was reminded of it today, reading about the shenanigans happening in Brighton. Oh, how things have changed since Lonnie’s day.

ClickToday’s song is Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra

Sun is shining in the sky
There ain’t a cloud in sight
Its stopped raining everybody’s in their play
And don’t you know
It’s a beautiful new day hey,hey

Running down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mr Blue Sky is living here today hey, hey

Mr Blue Sky, please tell us why
You had to hide away for so long
Where did we go wrong?

Hey you, with the pretty face
Welcome to the human race
A celebration, Mr Blue Sky’s up there waiting
And today is the day we’ve waited for.

Just because it’s a really sunny day, and just because this is a real feelgood song that makes me happy, I’ve dusted down the Song Of The Day after a period of hibernation.

If it’s sunny where you are and you’re not already outside, then – to paraphrase kids TV from the 70s – why don’t you just switch off your computer screen and go out and do something less boring instead?

ClickToday’s song is Wrote A Song For Everyone by Creedence Clearwater Revival

Met myself a comin’ county welfare line.
I was feelin’ strung out, Hung out on the line.
Saw myself a goin’, down to war in June.
All I want, All I want is to write myself a tune.

Wrote a song for everyone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song for everyone,
When I couldn’t even talk to you.

Got myself arrested, Wound me up in jail.
Richmond ’bout to blow up, Communication failed.
If you see the answer, now’s the time to say.
All I want, All I want is to get you down to pray.

Wrote a song for everyone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song for everyone,
When I couldn’t even talk to you.

Saw the people standin’ thousand years in chains.
Somebody said it’s diff’rent now, look, it’s just the same.
Pharoahs spin the message, round and round the truth.
They could have saved a million people, How can I tell you?

Wrote a song for everyone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song for everyone,
When I couldn’t even talk to you.

The wonderful CCR, and yet another classic song from John Fogarty and co.
