SOTD
Song of the Day (SOTD) started on 16 July 2008 and it’s my attempt at getting some new content onto The New Wolfs Howl every day. Inspired by BenSpark’s Photo-A-Day postings, I thought I’d use SOTD to get something new up every day, and share with you some of my favourite songs.
Each day’s posting takes a certain format - the title of the song and the artist, followed by an excerpt from the lyric (or the whole lyric if the song is short or the lyric is just too good) and then a few lines about why I like it, why it has been chosen as today’s SOTD or any other rambling that I think fits the occasion. Then, to finish and so that you can check out the song for yourself, there’s a link to Amazon Downloads or, if it’s not available from Amazon, a link to iTunes. Failing that, there’s a YouTube link.
The only criteria that applies to the SOTD is that it has to be in my digital music collection. This ‘rule’ was introduced after SOTD had been running for a couple of weeks, so there are a couple of the very early ones aren’t in my collection. Other than that, though, there are no restrictions - so there will be songs from all genres, including comedy.
To try and avoid repetition, I keep track of all the previously published SOTDs in an OpenOffice database. If you want to see all the previously published tracks, but don’t want to click through too many pages of the blog you can download a copy of the database here. I upload an updated version every so often, but it may be somewhere between 20 and 50 days behind the posts published on the blog.
