The 9 Fingered NBA Player

When Gerald Green was in 6th grade he attempted a dunk on a makeshift basketball hoop, when the ring on his right ring finger got caught on a nail and his finger was ripped into two. Needless to say Gerald Greens journey to being a key roleplayer and being on one of today’s best NBA teams is a very interesting one.

Green did not play high school basketball until his sophomore year, when he played for the junior varsity team at J. Frank Dobie High School, and in his junior year he played for varsity but his season was cut short because of academic issues. Green then transferred to a charter school, Gulf Shores Academy, in Houston, where he repeated his junior year.

In Greens senior year of high school, he averaged 33 points, 12, rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks per game. In the 2005 McDonald’s All-American he scored 24 points, and won the All-American dunk competition. After his outstanding play he was considered a five star recruit by Rivals.com and was listed the number one player in the nation in 2005. So he decided to enter the NBA draft.

Green was drafted 18th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2005 NBA draft. He later went on to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2007-2008), Houston Rockets (2008), Dallas Mavericks (2008-2009), and many other teams before returning to the Houston Rockets this past year, and not only did he return he became a key bench player for the team.

This past season Green got a 10 day contract for the Houston Rockets and when that was up signed with the team for the rest of the year and averaged 12 points per game on 37% shooting from three, Green scored 27 on January 3, 2018 against the Orlando Magic. Just two day later Green came of the bench scoring 29 and tieing his record for eight made threes in a single game, and on March 30 Green hit a buzzer beating three to steal a win from the Phoenix Suns. On July 10 the Houston Rockets resigned Green, for a $2.4 million one year deal.
