This week, the MLB is holding their annual Winter Meetings. This year, the event is held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort.

The Winter Meetings are held each year and is widely viewed as the biggest portion of the offseason. Managers, players, coaches, front office workers, reporters and many fans all gather in the same hotel for four days every December and wait for MLB rumors to spiral around. Players sign mega contracts, and most every year, a blockbuster trade or two are agreed upon. This year, though a slow start, is no different, and the rumors are already spreading quickly.

First off, one very notable signing was already inked, and that was outfielder Billy Hamilton signing a one year deal worth five million dollars with the Kansas City Royals. On top of this, right hander Tyson Ross has inked a minor league contract with the Tigers after spending the second half of 2018 with the Cardinals. Most importantly, however, rumors have been spiraling around the league. Marlins catcher JT Realmuto is one of the most sought after trade chips of the offseason, and Miami is ready to move him. The Yankees and Mets have interest, and have discussed a three team blockbuster trade. The hypothetical deal would involve young Mets ace Noah Syndergaard, JT Realmuto, and rookie of the year runner up Miguel Andujar as a basis. Of course, if the deal is completed sometime this week, more pieces will be added due to the star factor going all three ways in this trade. As of now, however, nothing is iminent.

Also in Vegas, teams are meeting with superstar free agent Bryce Harper, in his home city, attempting to work out a deal while they are there. Again, nothing is close, but the market is becoming much more clear, as the Dodgers, White Sox and Phillies are the front runners, while the Yankees and Cardinals have declared themselves out of the stakes for Harper. Also, the Dodgers and Indians have struck up conversation about a potential Corey Kluber trade that would involve a few of the Dodgers outfielders, such as Alex Verdugo, Yasiel Puig and/or Joc Pederson. These are just a few of the rumors to go around, and many other players are involved. Headlining the list of players generating a little trade interest includes Brandon Belt, Scooter Gennett, Jose Martinez, Zack Greinke and Carlos Santana.

As for the Cardinals, they made their plan clear. They want depth. A backup catcher, bullpen help, and a left handed utility player to come off the bench. While it is only one day in, they have found none of that yet, but did claim one player off of waivers. That player was Ryan Meisinger, from Baltimore. Meisinger had a 6.43 ERA in 18 games in 2018, and will, at least for now, hold the 40th spot of the Cardinals 40 man roster.

While this all seems like a lot, it has only been one full day of the Winter Meetings. Before the end of the day Thursday, much more will come out of Vegas.
