Burberry has apologized for an article of clothing that featuring a noose around the neck that premiered during London Fashion Week.

In a statement to CBS News, Burberry CEO Marco Gobbetti said he is “deeply sorry for the distress” the hoodie has caused, according to CBSNews.com.

“Burberry should not have made a coat like that. Knowing someone who has suffered from mental illness this could only make their case worse,” freshman Savanna Clayton said.

A noose attached to the adjustable strings that hang down from the hoodie. the hoodie was removed from the autumn-winter collection, along with all images featuring the look.

“I would be extremely mad; a noose is not something to make fashion. It is something is used to kill someone. Yes there are guns on hoodies and knives but a noose sole purpose is to kill a human. A gun could be used to kill a deer or a turkey. A knife is used for food,” Clayton said.

The runway show was dedicated to the “youth of today.” The designer said he wanted to recognize youths who have to “scream for what they believe in, for them to find beauty in expressing their voice,” according to CBSNews.com.

The “youth of today” would mean what is popular with teens and children. A noose is not something one generally thinks about when thinking of kids, according to CBSNews.com.

“Suicide is not fashion. It is not glamorous nor edgy and since this show is dedicated to the youth expressing their voice, here I go. Riccardo Tisci and everyone at Burberry it is beyond me how you could let a look resembling a noose hanging from a neck out on the runway,” sophomore Kennedy Lane said.
