In 2008 Tesla released the first Tesla Roadster. The roadster is going to be the fastest accelerating Tesla to date.
“It looks amazing and is insanely fast. What’s not to like,” freshman Addie Plumb said.
In 2017, the new roadster was revealed as a concept car; later Tesla announced it would be sold to the public.
“Tesla has been doing so many great things for electric cars, and this is just another reason to buy one, they are always innovating,” senior Ian Couch said.
The roadster will have an all-wheel drive system using two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear. Tesla claims that the car has a zero-to-60 time of 1.9 seconds, a top speed of more than 250 mph and a quarter mile time of 8.8 seconds.
“Maybe more people will look into electric cars, because this one is so amazing. It can be a good track car and doesn’t require gas,” senior Robby Manor said.
The roadster has a 200-kWh battery that is said to achieve up to 620 miles of range with light driving; if used on a performance track that number would likely drop.
“Tesla already has great cars,” freshman Josh Mickel said.
The vehicle has four seats. A removable glass roof, that fits in the trunk when removed can give the car a convertible feel and a touch screen panel, climate control, heated seats and more. The starting price of the roadster is $200,000, with a reservation fee of $50,000.
