It seemed inevitable because it was. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures announced that Spider-Man will return to the MCU after the studios reached a new deal to continue their partnership. Fans and investors around the world rejoiced at the news, as it ensures billion-dollar business for the wall-crawler for years to come.

“As Sony develops its own ‘Spidey-verse,’ we could be getting two parallel fictional universes, something people have not seen for a long time. It would be really interesting if Sony and Marvel worked together on their Spider-Man projects,” senior Gracie Reamer said. 

The new deal sees Marvel Studios producing the next installment of Spidey’s cinematic franchise, with Kevin Feige taking a lead role in the production. Spider-Man may also continue to appear in other MCU movies going forward. 

“My guess is part of making the new deal happen included Marvel’s involvement in Sony’s spinoffs, and some plan to allow the MCU version of Spider-Man to cross over into those spinoff characters to appear in the solo Spidey releases,” junior Zachary Czarnik said. 

Further down the road, it is rumored there could be a feature film with Peter Parker’s Spider-man that has a sequel with Miles Morales’s Spiderman in a multiverse dream with a finale movie including Peter Parker and Miles Morales with the Avengers, according to the article “Spider-Man Back In Marvel Cinematic Universe After Sony, Marvel Reach New Deal” by Forbes. 

“If Marvel and Sony worked together on a Spider-Man crossover, then Venom, Carnation, and Miles Morales could all be apart of the fun. Sony currently owns the rights to all three of those characters, but if Marvel and Sony work together, who knows what fans will get,” junior Bella Daws said. 

Whatever comes to pass, though, the big news is that Spider-Man is back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the end of the day, companies are trying to make money, and the best way for Marvel and Sony to make the most money is to create a crossover between Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Universe, according to the article from Forbes.
