On November 12, Disney released its streaming service, “Disney +” and with it, a “Star Wars” spin-off show, “The Mandalorian.” The show’s popularity is in part because of the launch of Disney +.

“[The Mandalorian] is so good. It expands on the lore of the ‘Star Wars’ universe so much. It gives a new depth to everything fans have come to know and love about the franchise,” senior Royal Oakief said.

“Iron Man” director, Marvel movie actor and “Star Wars” fan Jon Favreau co-created the series with his “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” collaborator and “Star Wars” creator George Lucas’ protege, Dave Filoni. The series centers “Game of Thrones” and “Kingsman 2” star Pedro Pascal as the title character, a bounty hunter and gunslinger operating in the far reaches of the galaxy.

“While the books and comics talked about the events in this show, George Lucas has said that it is not considered ‘canon’. It only expands the ‘Star Wars E-U’ (expanded universe),” senior R.J. Carter said.

The show follows Boba Fett’s son, Jengo Fett, as a bounty hunter. It follows an ancient race of beings that have been around since the beginning of time but were never really explored in the main-stream movies. Some people think this show is Disney being greedy and pushing out content that they know their fans will enjoy, no matter how good or bad it is.

“It is funny how Disney can just do whatever they want and not have any consequences. It is not a good show, and you can tell that they are just mass-producing content that their fans will eat up. Maybe, if someone actually was passionate about making a good show, then they could make a decent show,” senior Cole Bote said.

As of now, “The Mandalorian” only has four episodes, only available on Disney +. A Disney + subscription starts at $6 a month, with content and shows regularly added.
