In Early January, Prince Harry and Megan Markle decided to step down from their royal duties and alternate residences between Canada and Britain for the sake of their marriage and safety. The majority of students are in agreement with the decision, but for different reasons.

“While they can no longer formally represent The Queen, the Sussexes have made clear that everything they do will continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty,” the palace said according to npr.org.

Prince Harry, who is sixth in line for the throne, was the one who made the decision to step away from royal responsibilities. 81.3% of students agree with his decision according to a survey.

“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,” Prince Harry Sussex of Britain said according to npr.org.

In 1997, Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana of Wales, was killed in a car crash while trying to escape a sea of paparazzi. Prince Harry was only 12 years old and the incident has haunted him since. He fears that the same thing will happen to Meghan and their son Archie. From their union two years ago, the Sussexes have received backlash due to the difference Markle’s background from that of her in-laws, who stem from a royal bloodline. Timberland students have a backlash of their own.

The royal couple plan to repay the taxpayers of Britain by selling their home, which was furnished using taxes, and refrain from receiving public donations. The total amount returned to the public is estimated to be a whopping 2.4 million pounds, or 3.1 million dollars, according to BBC.com.
