Live Action Cowboy Bebop
April 23, 2019
The anime Cowboy Bebop is getting a live action series following the story of Spike Spiegel a futuristic bounty hunter.
“[Cowboy Bebop] is a classic anime that everyone can enjoy, live action should bring in some more fans,” junior Jackson Fenner said.
Cowboy Bebop is the story of Spiegel who is an easygoing man who makes friends with people from all over the galaxy. Cowboy Bebop’s premise is to be a action anime, with elements of romance and humor.
“Spike is one of my favorite characters ever; he is so relaxed even the worst situations, and it’s a cool way to see a protagonist,” sophomore Luke Wills said.
John Cho will play Spiegel in the live action series. This brought relief to those who have asked for diversity in casting, when a movie or TV show originates in another country. Hollywood has been accused of using predominantly white casts, especially in the lead roles, such as “Ghost in the Shell” casting Scarlett Johansson and Emma Stone in the movie “Aloha” as Hawaiian-Chinese love interest, Allison Ng.
“The movie is being made in America so it makes sense that most actors are American and it can also help casting white actors for relatability to the character,” sophomore Cameron Morgan said.
Ten episodes of the live action series have been agreed too, but more episodes may be released later on. The release date is currently unknown.
