After the release of the redacted report by special counsel Robert Mueller on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, numerous groups and politicians have called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, citing potential obstruction of justice and other crimes demonstrated in the report.

Numerous democratic candidates for president in 2020 have stated their position on impeachment. Vermont senator Bernie Sanders has argued impeachment would become too dominant in the headlines, and take away from progressive messaging surrounding progressive presidential campaigns during a CNN town hall on April 22. During her own town hall, Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren called for immediate impeachment proceedings. California senator Kamala Harris has also called for impeachment.

“If you’ve actually read the Mueller report, it’s all laid out there. It’s not like it’s going to take a long time to figure that out. It’s there. It’s got the footnotes, it’s got the points, it connects directly to the law,” Warren said according to CNN.

Many democrats have come out against impeachment; including Speaker Nancy Pelosi, majority leader Steny Hoyer and majority whip James Clyburn. Numerous other democrats have come out against impeachment supporting Pelosi in her opposition to impeachment.

“He has continually done various things that warrant impeachment, and frankly he’s not a good representative of the U.S. in international affairs” freshman Jordan Meininger said.

Calls for impeachment come after the release of the redacted report by Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The report demonstrated multiple potential instances where the president obstructed justice, though ultimately left the question on whether or not the president committed a crime to congress.

“There is no form of evidence that points to Trump being eligible to being impeached in the first place, the people that want Trump to be impeached are wasting their time,” sophomore Dominic Diamantini said.
