Student Council at Timberland consists of 36 students who share ideas and concerns with teachers and school principles while completing projects and sponsoring events that help bring the school together.
“I joined student council, because I saw the way StuCo impacted the school and wanted to be a part of it. It’s a great experience so far, It’s the highlight of my day,” junior Sam Ellefson said.
The purpose of student council is to give students the opportunity to develop leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects.
“The most rewarding part about student council is being part of a fun group like that. Everybody’s great and they are fun to talk to and fun to work with. [I enjoy] improving the overall attitude of the school,” senior Douglas Dawkins said.
In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit, student council is the voice of the student body.
“We would like to think that is creates a more positive environment, that’s our goal. We try to do things to where students can take advantage of to where they have a very positive high school experience – whether it be the spirit days or the dances we put on or some of the events, fundraisers or community service events- so they feel like they can apart of something pretty special here at Timberland High School,” StuCo sponsor James Andrzejewski said.
StuCo does various things that help improve the school environment such as making signs, cleaning the school, organizing fundraisers, and making decisions that they said they hope will impact the school in a positive way.
