With the school year almost at its end, summer school is just around the corner, if a student is in need of credit recovery or wants to take extra classes for credit advancement.

Credit recovery is offered to allow students to recover their credits if they failed a class and needs to retake it to  graduate on time. The other option, credit advancement, allows a student to take extra classes, often allowing students to take a TA hour, late start or early release their senior year.

¨People take summer classes… so they have more space in the schedule to take another elective they may want to take, or so they can have a release hour during their senior year of study hall,¨ counselor Julie Biggs said.

The average class size in summer school is around 25 to 35 students and has an accelerated curriculum, according to health and industrial tech teacher Richard Brown.

Summer school is in session from June 7 to 30. The am session runs from 7:15 to 11 a.m. and the afternoon session from 11:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
