PDA stands for “Public Display of Affection”. For some, PDA is appropriate, but for others, it can be uncomfortable to witness. Sarah Paes thinks that the reason there is PDA at school is because students have less impulse control and more hormones.
PDA most commonly takes place in the hallways, on the field and in the cafeteria.
According to a survey of 196 THS students and staff, students said they thought warnings, detention and the usage of PDA signs were appropriate regulations for inappropriate affection.
According to a student survey, 51.4% of students don’t care about the PDA they see at school, while 39.3% don’t like it and 9.3% think PDA is totally okay at school. 45.4% of students see PDA everyday at school, 34.4% see it 1-2 a week and 20.2% see PDA less than once a week.
According to Elizabeth Reckker, PDA is allowed at Timberland to an extent, but both her and Mr. Winkleman suggest that there is a time and place for PDA and school is not the place for it.
According a student survey, some tips to avoid PDA include:
#1: Turn away from the couple.
#2: Close your eyes.
#3: Tell the couple to stop showing PDA.
