The hallway, like the bathrooms and cafeteria, require proper etiquette. According to, Change management insight, workplace etiquette “will ultimately lead to professional growth and success.”
Here are 10 ways to maintain proper etiquette in the halls:
Tip #1: When you see someone studying or working in the hallway, give them a quiet space to help them focus. Do not talk to them or be loud.
Tip #2: When walking in the hallway, stay on the right side and give the people walking in the opposite direction of you enough space.
Tip #3: Do not stop walking in the middle of the hallway to talk to friends. This will cause traffic. Simply wait until there is a big enough space to get to the side and talk to your friends there.
Tip #4: When eating in the hallway during lunch, do not run, scream or leave trash. Provide a respectful environment for your peers. The hallways are not a playground.
Tip #5: Be mindful of other students in the hallway. Do not purposely slam or bump into others, and instead, leave space between you and them.
Tip #6: Do not look at your phone while walking in the hallway. Paying attention to your phone rather than your surroundings can cause problems.
Tip #7: If you need to cross the hallway to get into a classroom, make sure to walk closer to the middle of the hallway and wait for an opening between people.
Tip #8: No slow walking; instead, have a nice pace. Proper walking includes one to have a steady pace. We don’t want ourselves or others to get a tardy slip, so it’s best to move with efficiency.
Tip #9: Do not play music in the hallway. This distracts others walking in the hallway and leads to an overly loud environment.
Tip #10: Don’t take things off of the lockers or off the ceilings.
Following these steps can improve the traffic in our school’s hallway, allowing students to get to class faster and easier.
