Student Council, also known as StuCo, helps plan assemblies, dances, spirit week and feel good week in order to create a welcoming environment for students at THS.
“It’s … a very humbling feeling to know that our job is to make everyone’s life better around here, even the teachers. We do things for teachers, we do gifts for them, we do a lot of, you know, things to make their lives easier,”English teacher Jim Andrzejewski said.
According to senior Campbell Hull, StuCo meets every day during fourth hour. Their agendas happen on Monday, which consist of collaborating on projects for teachers and THS.
“I really like that there are some expectations, but really no matter what project or commission you’re in, we have the freedom to change it how we want to do it, try something new, experiment a little bit. If we have ideas we haven’t seen before… implementing our ideas is not only allowed but encouraged,” senior Sean McDonald said.
The application for StuCo contains questions concerning school spirit, grades and signatures from parents and counselors.
“I would say my favorite part about being in StuCo is just being able to see the difference that we’re making at school. I joined StuCo because I wanted to be able to be a part of that difference in making Timberland a place where everybody feels like they want to come to school every day,” Hull said.
Andrzejewski is retiring after this school year, when spanish teacher Meg Strayhorn will be taking over as StuCo advisor.
