Derrick Rose is Back
November 14, 2018
Ten years ago he was drafted first overall in the NBA draft, nine years ago he was rookie of the year, seven years ago he was the youngest MVP, and six years ago the injuries started, but October 31 he returned, Derrick Rose is back.
When Derrick Rose was 20 years old he won the rookie of the year award in the NBA. Two years later he went on to be the second Chicago Bulls player to win the MVP award, and was the youngest to ever win the award in NBA history, he played for team USA in the olympics in 2010 and won a gold medal. His playstyle had never been seen before he was insanely explosive and could get to the hoop with ease, but could pass anyway possible, was something that was beautiful to watch.
Two years after Rose won MVP he had torn his ACL in his left knee and missed the whole 2012-2013 NBA season. In the 2014-2015 season he played one month, and suffered another Knee injury, he needed surgery and was ruled out indefinitely. Roses last season with the Bulls was 2015-2016, he fractured his orbital bone in a preseason game that caused him to require a face mask while playing.
On June 22, 2016 Rose was traded to the New York Knicks, and admitted that he wasn’t the same DRose that he used to be, he showed flashed here and there of “Vintage DRose,” though he wasn’t consistent.
On July 25, 2017 he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but on November 24 he left the team to reevaluate his basketball future as his increasing frustration with injuries caused him to question his desire to continue playing.
On February 8, 2018 he traded to the Utah Jazz where he was later waived and out of the NBA for a little under a month before being picked up by the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the playoffs, Rose averaged 14.2 points in 23.8 minutes per game. Then on October 31, 2018 he scored his career high 50 points and the game winning block in a win over the Utah Jazz and was fighting back tears within the final minutes of the game.
After the game was over Rose broke into tears and said “It means everything man, I worked so hard… I did this for the franchise, the organization, the fans… I’m Just doing everything I can to win.”
Last night November 7, 2018 Rose scored 31 points against the lakers. Derrick Rose is back, it may not be for long, but he is back.
