The Blues won their eleventh consecutive game last night, setting a franchise record.

St. Louis got a strong start to the match, getting goals from forward Jaden Schwartz and defenseman Colton Parayko. Schwartz snuck the puck past Toronto’s goalie Anderson, off of assists from two former Maple Leafs, in Alexander Steen and Tyler Bozak. On the powerplay, Parayko ripped a wrist shot from the point, and it slivered into the goal, although it took a replay to confirm.

“The emergence of this team during this win streak has been great to watch,” junior Blake Haffer said.

Over the course of the game, but in the first period in particular, the Blues had control of the puck for a majority of the contest. The extended possession resulted in 40 shots on goal, and lots of high quality chances. The Leafs struggled to put much past St. Louis’ goalie Jordan Binnington. The rookie goaltender stopped a handful of Toronto breakaways, allowing the Blues to stay in the game.

“Binnington has emerged as a top tier goaltender this season,” junior Ethan Seymore.

The Maple Leafs tallied two goals in the third period to tie the game and send it to overtime. It only took 34 seconds for the Blues to end it. Ryan O’Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko went on a 2 on 1 breakaway, and O’Reilly’s shot hit the top crossbar and dropped into the net. The Blues have not trailed a game for over a week, setting the franchise record in their game against the Wild this weekend.

“It seems like the Blues are breaking a record in every game they play in at this point. It’s exhilarating to watch,” junior Ethan Markovich said.

The Blues can build on their franchise record win streak this Thursday as they face the Dallas Stars.
