Cheer Team Wins Regionals for the First Time
November 6, 2019
Timberland’s cheer team can be found not only at football and basketball games, but also at their own competitions.
Recently, they won regionals.
“My reaction when we won was ecstatic. [Everyone was] jumping, screaming and crying when we got called for first place. To be a part of the team that won regionals for the first time ever is amazing,” sophomore Tommy Thach said.
The team had prepared for a long time in order to perform how they did at regionals. Hours, weeks and months of practice paid off. In fact, the team started working skills in April, went to camp in June and had been practicing the choreography since July.
“We prepared for regionals by practicing every day for weeks until the big performance. I can say our hard work truly paid off,” Thach said.
While a win at Regionals definitely proves this, what is also impressive is the routine itself. Two days before the competition, one of the flyers broke her finger and the entire routine had to be rearranged.
“[One of my favorite things about cheer is] all of the friends I have made. The season has had a lot of ups and downs, but we have pulled through and worked hard to accomplish all of our goals,” sophomore Jenna Woijeck said.
Regionals took place at St. Francis Borgia High School. Next, the team will compete at the state competition November 16 at Lindenwood.
