Upcoming Boys Wrestling Season

This year on the boys wrestling team there are 48 athletes striving to reach their personal and team wrestling goals.

“Some of the goals this year are to get more kids to state and get some more names on the wall, which means the kids place in state,” boys wrestling coach Jeff Renz said.

A personal goal is for senior Andrew Bontrager to place in state this year.

“I got into wrestling because one of his friends in middle school got him into wrestling… It kind of made me realize that a lot of the things I do in other sports aren’t as hard, because I don’t think anything can really compare to wrestling when it comes to practices,” Bontrager said

Renz said the impact he hopes wrestling has is to get kids to change their outlook on things based on their wrestling experience.

“You get some kids who aren’t super athletic, and if they wrestle four years it can change their physique and can change their mentality, and it also spreads into other sports,” Renz said.

This year there are two home duals/meets for boys varsity wrestling: January 12 at 7:00 p.m. and January 19 at 6:00 p.m. Both are in the large gym.

The next boys varsity wrestling match is on December 8 at 6:00 p.m. against Troy.
