Girls Wrestling Goals For Rest Of The Season

On the girls wrestling team, there are 17 girls led by first year head coach Jesse Friese. Many of the girls are first year wrestlers.

February 5 is districts for girls wrestling, “so hopefully we get as many girls to state as possible,” Friese said.

It is not just the coach who wants the team to go to state. One of the goals for junior Kate Cooper is also to place in state. Cooper said she has seen herself improve by how she performs and in practices.

“It’s helped me with my mindset; you have to be mentally strong for the sport,” Cooper said.

According to Friese, “the girls improve every match.”

“First match was a blue and green duel. It was not very good and it’s just a strategy thing,” senior Carlie Lamparter said.

The varsity girls wrestling team is 2-3-0, as of February 8.

“I feel like I’ve been more aggressive in my matches, and I’ve been able to try out some new moves and not be as scared of it anymore,” junior Lilly Hackworth said.

The next girls wrestling match is this weekend at districts. For more on results and stats visit the athletics page.
