In Timprov, laughter fills the room as students enjoy each others’ performances in a number of different games, having to act and work together on the spot.
Improv is creative theatre where participants are put on the spot to create characters, settings and stories along with other actors. Three improvisational games are played per meeting.
“It’s very simple. All of you come in; you don’t have to have anything prepared. You just listen to the rules, and then you play a game,” senior Theodore Hanson said.
Students who attend meetings also have the opportunity to participate on-stage during improv shows.
“We meet all the time, and now it’s this big thing. And, when we have a show, it’s a big deal,” Hanson said.
All profits from Timprov’s improv shows goes to a charity of the club’s choice, according to Hanson. The next improv show will be May 3 at 7 p.m. in the theatre. Admission is $2.
“We do it for charity, because our reward is doing it. It’s getting that knowledge, and getting that experience and that repetition,” Hanson said.
The co-captains of Timprov Club are Hanson and senior Cassidy Gooch.
“It’s a good way to get laughing. It’s a good break in the middle of the day where we can talk to each other and have fun, watch each other perform. It’s something I really enjoy,” Gooch said.
Improv can benefit students’ ability to think on the spot in tense situations, according to Gooch.
“I’ve gotten a lot better at speaking in front of crowds and in front of other people,” senior Mo Harbison said.
Timprov Club meets in room 513 during lunch on Fridays and always welcomes new members.
