For students who want to learn the basics of guitar, Timberland offers two classes: guitar 1 and guitar 2.
“When you take guitar 1, you are starting from the beginning. You don’t need any experience whatsoever on the instrument or being able to read music because we will get all that information to you. As you progress through the semester, you’ll learn how to read music and how to play melody and chords,” guitar teacher Angela Pieper said.
Both guitar 1 and 2 are offered for students of all grades.
“It’s a pretty formal approach to guitar. You learn a little music theory, not crazy music theory, but you learn how to read the staff. And, you do learn how to play pretty well,” senior Mack Harbison said
Both guitar 1 and 2 are semester classes worth half a credit each in fine art.
‘’Even for someone who is able to read basic notes, trying to go straight to learning guitar is challenging. It will be all the way through, but really for anyone it will still be an enjoyable experience,’’ senior Sean Kirk said
Pieper said she hopes students are encouraged to give guitar a try.
“You don’t know if you’re going to like it or not. Trying guitar here at Timberland is a great way to see if you like it without spending money on a guitar…You get to try it out for free and try something new, and that’s always a good thing,” Pieper said
