The NFL returned this past week with a full slate of games. The first week of the season was very memorable for several reasons. The opening week included the the Browns’ first non-loss since 2016 and an incredible comeback win by Green Bay.

The first game of the season was last Thursday with the reigning Super Bowl champions in the Philadelphia Eagles facing off against the 2016 NFC Champions, Falcons. The Falcons tallied more total yards than the Eagles, but Philadelphia limited Atlanta to one touchdown in six Red Zone possessions, leading them to their first win of the season.

“The Falcons are not what they used to be. They need to find a way to get the ball to Julio Jones in the red zone,” junior Blake Haffer said.

The Steelers, a consensus top ten team in the league, faced off against the Browns, who have not won a game since 2016, on Sunday. The Browns got two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to send the game to OT, where no one scored and the game ended in OT and resulted in the Browns’ first non-loss since December 24th 2016. Despite throwing for over 300 passing yards, Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger did not have the best game. He threw three interceptions and finished with a quarterback rating of 22..

“The Browns didn’t win, but it is nice to finally see them not lose a game,” junior Blake Ebner said.

The most talked about game from this week was the Packers vs Bears game on Sunday Night Football. The 2014 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers was taken out of the game early after suffering a leg injury. He came back in the third quarter, and did not get possession back until the Packers had a 20 point deficit. Green Bay scored 24 unanswered points to complete the comeback win. The leader of it all was Aaron Rodgers. He came back into the game when the Packers had their backs to the wall and threw for three touchdowns to lead the Packers to the unimaginable win.

“Aaron Rodgers was unstoppable once he came back in. It was unreal to watch,” Junior Sophia Giltner said.

The first week of the NFL season had many important storylines, but it is just the first week in what many fans hope will be an exhilarating season.
