National League Wildcard Preview

The Rockies and Cubs face off in the National League Wildcard at Wrigley field tonight at 7:08pm.

Having won the division the past two years, it will be change of pace for Chicago to play in the one game Wildcard. As for Colorado, they were in the playoffs last year as a National League Wildcard team, losing the match 1-0. That postseason appearance ended a seven year playoff drought.

“The game should be good tonight. Two teams that match up pretty evenly on paper,” junior Adam Thomason said.

The two starters tonight are Kyle Freeland and Jon Lester. Freeland gets the ball for the Rockies. He owns a 2.85 ERA and a 17-7 record on the 2018 season. Lester, who gets the nod for the Cubs, had a 3.32 ERA and a 18-6 on the year. Both starters are left handed.

“As a Cardinals fan it is hard to not cheer for the Rockies,” junior Emma Hayden said.

If the Rockies were to advance tonight, they would make their farthest run in the postseason since 2009, when they made the NLCS. If the Cubs were to win, they would advance to the playoffs for the fourth straight year and have a chance at their second rings in three years.

“The Rockies need to handle their business tonight. I couldn’t stand if the Cubs won the World Series again,” Junior Blake Ebner said,

Tonight’s National League Wildcard match is the first game in what will be a hard fought postseason.
