The Cardinals had their annual Winter Warm Up this past weekend, and things sure warmed up.

On Friday, at the Cubs’ own fanfest, former MVP, Cubs player Kris Bryant, made some less than friendly comments about St. Louis, saying, he would never like to play there and that the city is very boring. Former starting pitcher Ryan Dempster egged on Bryant, adding that he would never want to play in St. Louis, saying that he would choose anywhere besides St. Louis when choosing a team.

“The Cardinals Cubs rivalry had cooled down, [but] it seems as if the fire between the two teams is back,” junior Ethan Seymore said.

There was no response to Bryant’s comments, until Saturday. On the Cardinals’ Caravan, an event in which the Cardinals players travel to surrounding areas to meet fans and sign autographs, relief pitcher John Brebbia commented on the situation, saying, “Cry me a river, loser,” in reply to his negative comments. That statement from Brebbia led Cardinals catcher, and nine time Gold Glover, Yadier Molina to post on instagram about the situation. In his post he said only “losers” talk negative about other teams’ cities, calling it unacceptable. New Cardinals’ skipper Mike Shildt made some candid comments on the situation. In a press conference monday, he provided a long list of reasons why St. Louis is not boring, citing the many Cardinals legends who still call it home and the many Cardinals who still play, but come back in the offseason.

“Yadi is the captain, he always stands up for our great city,” junior Blake Haffer said.

Things may be on a downturn, in terms of the heated rivalry, as Kris Bryant reportedly texted former Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler during the Blues game saturday night, apologizing for what he said.

“Bryant’s apology doesn’t change anything for me. He is just trying to cover himself up,” Sophia Giltner said.

The Cardinals face off with the Cubs at home May 31-June 2.
