Ta’amu throws for 209 yards, rushes for 77 yards as the Battlehawks begin their inaugural season with a victory.

Pierson-El was the leading receiver, tallying four receptions and racking up 64 total yards — headlined by a 41-yard reception. Ta’amu threw for a touchdown to Russel, and running back Ford rushed for a touchdown of his own. Dallas’ rushing leader Dunbar only ran for 27 yards, while their top receiver Nagel tallied 43 total yards.

“The Battlehawks are going all the way. They are the most talented team in the XFL,” senior Ethan Seymore said.

St. Louis’ defense was solid, taking advantage of Dallas’ starting quarterback being out with an injury. The Renegades were held to 267 total yards, which is the second-fewest in the XFL. Additionally, Ta’amu’s 77 rushing yards rank second in the league, while his average of 8.6 yards per carry leads the league.

“Ta’amu is finally getting another chance in the spotlight, and he has taken full advantage,” senior Blake Haffer.

The Battlehawks’ offensive approach was much more balanced; they passed 11 times and ran 12 times, as opposed to the Renegades, who passed 12 times and ran on a mere three plays. Dallas had a total of 58 rushing yards, which led to them outpassing St. Louis by 26 yards.

“The balanced offense by the Battlehawks was crucial to the win. Ta’amu really showed off the legs as well,” senior Harrison Riebow said.

On Sunday, the Battlehawks will try to keep their record unblemished as they face the Houston Roughnecks at 5PM on FS1.
