The WSD indoor percussion team has just begun rehearsals for their upcoming competitions.
“My junior year of high school, I fell in love with the marching art activity. I knew at that point in time that this is what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. So, when I started at Timberland, one of my big goals was to start this indoor percussion group,” Percussion Director Derek Peplaw said.
Indoor percussion is different from other extracurricular activities because students from all across the district compete together as one group, as opposed to competing against one another.
“I go to North Point, and it’s cool to see a school like this that has so much culture built around it. It’s cool, because they call things different names and have different views,” junior Reid Struckmann said.
Struckmann said that, as a first-time competitor from a different school, the first few rehearsals were stressful with all the new people. But the welcoming environment quickly abated his fears.
“It’s really no different than working with people from this school. They come in with the same goal as you: To get better, learn the music, perform and do what they love. It’s cool getting to say that this group is all of Wentzville and not just Timberland,” senior Liam Townes said.
