It is Spanish teacher Meg Gorton’s first time teaching, but it is not her first time at Timberland.
Gorton recently returned to her alma mater to teach Spanish I and II, now working with some of the same teachers who taught her.
Gorton teaches about 75 Spanish students and 70 Advanced Spanish II students.
“I think the most challenging part of starting the year is establishing all of our routines as a class as we get in the groove of knowing what to expect each day, and just seeing how you guys take to it as I bring new stuff to the table,” Gorton said.
Gorton studied Spanish for three years with Spanish teacher Emily Torres.
“[Gorton] was one of the very best students I ever had in all of my years of teaching. She would always come in ready to do the activity and to participate,” Torres said.
During her time as a student, Gorton received the seal of biliteracy, noting distinguished study of the Spanish language.
“Spanish has always been a very big part of my history and culture as a person … But, when I got to high school, I knew I wanted to actually learn how to string my sentences together rather than just knowing nouns here and there,” Gorton said.
Gorton graduated from Timberland in 2019.
